I believe that a playful mindset doesn’t only allow us to go beyond our limiting assumptions and to discover amazing ideas, it also brings people together at a different level, creating the kind of connections that draw people to tackle bigger, bolder challenges with enthusiasm.
But playful exploration requires asking questions... and in a world where we are confronted with the urgency of giving answers, are we creating the space and environment that are necessary to reach a different level of connectivity ?
Our days are filled with fixing things, as fast as possible, taking shortcuts and ticking off boxes. But culture and motivation are not boxes you can tick. People don’t engage in conversation just because you tell them that your door is always open. A list of values or a mission statement are not enough to engage people fully.
It’s a process. An emotional process… and we’re trying to fix it with analytical solutions.
So what do I do in and with all of this?
Well, it all boils down to asking questions. Powerful ones. Playful ones. Provocative ones. Questions that might challenge your beliefs or ideas, or simply make you think of things from a different perspective. I play curious games with people, use odd tools, help people discover how to listen differently, understand what powerful questions are made of, experiment, explore, and do stuff that changes the experience they have with each other so that their beliefs and mindset, about what is possible, has room to change.
So no, I don't have the answers. But you and your team do, and they are so much better than those anyone else could pretend to have for or about you. I'm just there to help you find the place that they reside.
